gs,
The Heavy Chevy package was an appearance package available in 1971 & 1972. It included side stripes and a cowl type hood with hood pins. Cheap interior with floor mats etc. You could get any engine except the 454. Sort of a cheap mans SS. Fairly rare, were not that many of them made and very few left.
i thought the VIN indicated it was a 6 cyl. but they could be had with any V8 up to a 402. but as far as the ins. man new, it was just a 6 banger. they were kind of a poor mans SS. not many creature comforts or chrome. came w/ fat letter decals 'HEAVY CHEVY' on side and deck lid. make the guy a low ball offer and see what he says. not many left.
All Heavy Chevy optioned Chevelles were V8 and only offered in the coupe body style. VIN would start with 13437xxxxxxxx. The LS3 402 could only be ordered with the SS option OR F78-14 tires. So anyone opting for the LS3 in the Heavy Chevy would also have to opt for the F78-14 tires over the standard E78-14 tires as well.
Don, great web site. Enjoyed looking at it tonight.
