When you throw a rod through the side of your 350 or 454, you just round up another block and rebuild.
But what do you do when you throw a rod through the side of a V12 Allison in a P40????
The pilot was lucky and got it on the ground with minor damage to the plane.
Could have been a tragic disaster!

It'll be in the Vendors section of TeamWarhawk with stroker crank. :)

If I understand correctly replacement Merlin parts can be purchased (for a price) new, but what is the market for the Allison?

air cooled now!
lol On a more serious note I thought P-40s were air cooled

...and you don't have to deal with that whole "falling out of the sky" thing either.

I tried getting a picture for you today Tom. I was on a jobsite when I heard just a powerful rumble. It kept getting louder and louder, and I knew what it was. I ran outside and looked around and a very large group of Warbirds came over, several packs of them practicing formations. I love this time of year around here. Had what i think was a B-52 come over today as well. Low and slow and making a huge amount of noise as well. That sound had to send chills up the spines of many a German back in WWII.

Well Tom i think for this one J B Weld just wont cut it , if we had all the pieces we could try Steel -Tex way better than J/B weld and as a last resort Belzona Molecular Metal LOL. Glad the plane landed that,s a piece of history , Claire Chenault must be smilin another p-40 landed . Alex

:cool:on a lighter note, we recently had a combined WW2 planes/50's60's jets/car show at Teterboro airport and I got to see a couple of jets and a B17 fly over my neighborhood. When the B17 was flying over i heard it and ran out the back door to look up and see it flying almost directly over the house, so I ran back through the house and caught it as it flew away, back home I guess.
.Poiint is you can hear the engine note change as it climbs,I wonder what that V12 sounded like when it was wounded.

Wow, turns out it wast a B-52 I saw yesterday, it was Fifi flying through, the last B29 flying super fortress . Now that is just plane (pun intended) awesome, to see something so important to our history fly right over the top of me. Wish I had known it was her when I saw her.
