So I bought a 97 blazer (4.3L), and it has a strange problem. I'll be driveing (usually when pulling up to a stop but not always) and the car will just die on me. It usually starts back up just fine, but it's almost like it just idles down to a stall. It doesn't seem to sputter or anything, but maybe i just can't tell. Any ideas??

Thanks

Dont know if it will apply to your engine? It sure sounds just like a cam shaft sensor on a diesel truck it does the same thing when you just come to a stop engine just shuts off but will start right back up. It sucks when it shuts off on you while making a turn in heavy traffic:sad:
Check to see if your engine has a cam shaft sensor?
If you do have one it is just above your timing cover in the front.

My truck is a 1997 ford f250 7.3 diesel and that year most of the cam shaft sensors made for any car that used them went bad very fast because they had a weak magnet in them so you had to have them replaced often until they had better ones around 2000 with a better made magnet in side of them.

When mine went bad they used to cost $160.00 each what a ripp off now they are cheap and I keep one in my glove box for just in case times:D
Here is what one looks like for my truck you might be able to look in the front of your engine for the plug connection? It will have 2 wire prong connector.

Awesome...
Yeah, i honestly don't know if it does or not off hand, but i'll be checking tomorrow morning. Yeah it does suck when you are turning. lol What is it that the sensor is actually doing? These sensors are new to me.

BTW...thanks for the pic.

had a 91 blazer, a 94 s10, and a 96 blazer that did the same thing. Every ne turned out to be the wires between the distibutor (module) and the coil had rubbed on the intake untill the insulation was gone. They would short out and cause them to stall, A little electrical tape and split fixed the problem on all 3. might want to check it out

My 95 jimmy did the same thing, Rubbed on the firewall and ground the insulation off & shorted out. It would die, I would tow it home and then the stupid thing would start, Hard to figure out that way. Finally just started tracing wires & found it.

I'm not familiar with the 4.3 set up but I had that problem on a 1500 w/4.3 and turned out to be an idle control valve or sensor like problem.. was a company truck so wasn't allowed to look for myself but when I took it to dealer it was real quik fix..like 20 min. or something..
