I myself enjoy "doing more with less". Props to the man for continuing to work with the stock block 454 stuff.

Everyone these days pretty much just does it the easy way and buys their performance via cubic inches.
I concur, he is getting it done!

I would like more info on car setup. Lots of people say moroso springs are junk under 12 seconds, and koni shocks?
Heck with the engine Id rather have an MJ chassis tune!

Couple of quick questions. you say the car had too much gear for the motor so what do you think it needs a 4.33/4.11 and with the right gear how much faster do you think it would have went, and do you think if it had less gear if it would hurt the 1/8th mile times at all.
Actually I think it was real close the gearing in Kearney, but its an altitude track, I had my 29.90 tires on there. I believe in Houston you would need a 4.10 gear and probably would see high 10.20s in good conditions there, 10.3s for sure. Using the NHRA correction that 10.68 corrects to a 10.49. I will work with the combination to see just how fast I can get it to go, theres more there for sure. Next stop Denver.

Also "enlighten" us on the 4 quart stock pan...

Did you make a windage tray or scraper?? At what RPM do you see power loss with 4" stroke?? Is pan design more critical as stroke gets longer, or is it an RPM thing??

Why didn't we take that Buick to Fargo's?????:hurray:

Bob, first I think you should comment on the idle quality of my peanut port since you've seen it first hand. The 4 quart pan is used because it fits in a 66-67 Chevelle and thats what I sell them with. If you study the video you can see I have no oil pressure issues, I didnt even use the accusump. If you look at the pictures I believe you can see my modified windage tray. The Buick, we could have but it has no mufflers and it is put away, getting ready to R&D the 455 Buick engine.

Hi Mark,

Idle quality was like a stocker...didn't sound radical at all; with mufflers it would be a "no threat" sleeper.

I will check out the pics again for windage tray. I took a little Iphone video of the car when you drove it but I'm too dumb to know how to get it on the site...

Nice job Mark!
Whats the front/rear weight percentages with 220lbs, battery and cell in trunk?
What would you expect this to do in an average street car where somebody handicaps it with a cheap 2800 converter and 3.31 gear at 3800lbs like most would do based off of that camshaft?
Great example of how much can be done when converter, gear, tire, and chassis setup isn't compromised for the street.

I'd think you could add a 1-1.5 seconds to his time, on a average street car with ET streets or similar.

Typically you add two seconds to what someone thinks their car will run its first time at the track. Sometimes it more, sometimes less. That's for those who have enough faith in their car well that they are actually willing to put up a number.

People tend to forget dialing a car is a process. Cars don't magically show up at a track with properly set up suspensions, carb and ignition optimized, the right converter, optimal shift points, correct tire pressure, etc.

You are probably right on the 2 second rule.

I'm willing to test this theory :)

I can't take my car to a 2130 foot track and make 3 passes and have it dialed in after driving all night, but I will get there.
