Hello all,

A friend is restoring a 72 Chevelle SS and we were wondering about something in the interior. The object is an obround-shaped "tube" that is behind the rear seat back. It extends up from the floor pan (the area over the rear axle) directly in the center. It looks as if it may have a cap on top. I'm thinking maybe it's some sort of a vent.

Does anyone know what this is and what its purpose is?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It is the fuel/vapor separator. Part of the emmisions system to eliminate fumes from the tank entering the atmosphere. I believe its purpose is to keep liquid fuel from being drawn into the charcaol canister filter.
