I'm ready to start sanding the 68SS to prep it for a repaint, and with no rust or body work needed, I'm not planning to remove the existing finish to bare metal, just planning to block and prime until ready then shoot a different color. Do I need to determine what type of paint is on there now and if I do need to know, how do you tell? I didn't paint it, someone shot a poor incorrect blue color finish on it many years ago, but I don't know what type or brand of product they used. Or does it matter what type of paint was used when priming/sealing the entire car? The existing finish is sound, and the only reason were painting is to change the color. Just curious, couldn't find any info and don't know if it really matters or not.
