What is the purpose of having floating piston pins vs standard pressed pins. advantages/disadvantages? thanks david

With floating pins, is the small end hole diameter in the rod bigger, or do the pistons come with smaller pins? What I'm getting at is whether or not it requires machining to the rod to switch from pressed to floating. I know the FE Fords I built had floating pins from the factory, which I thought was neat.
