I didn't use a vacuum advance on my 468, nor my new zz502 cuz the GMPP instructions said not to. Man, those guys are conservative! Anyway, I plan to get a vacuum going on the zz starting at 8"hg pulling in about 20* at 16"hg. My mechanical initial will be 16* and max 38*, all in at 3000rpm (I am at 4200' so my real compression pressure is less). I have no way to actually test if that will be optimal for my car, so I am just going to go with it.
Anyway, that would give me 52* total advance cruising at 2000rpm (mechanical won't be all the way in, vacuum will be), and 58* cruising at 3000rpm which I wouldn't do anyway. Starting the pull at 8"hg, idle wouldn't get any vacuum advance and stay at 16.
Soooo..... if a motor can handle a bunch of advance without pinging, does more advance increase or decrease motor temperature, and can you really see a difference on the temp gauge? Like how much? Why?
