I posted this in the transmission section and had one reply. Hope maybe somebody can help in the performance section.

I have a TH350 that is the reverse pattern, full manual right now. I want to change it back to standard pattern automatic. The valve body is a GM part, so I don't know what I have to do to change it back. I do have a B&M shift kit to put in. What makes it full manual, and changes the PRND21 to 12DNRP? I am pulling it out today to make the change, and put a different torque converter in at the same time.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Depends on the brand of valvebody.

A turbo action does away with the governor, blocks a passage in the case, you can remove a band and the valvebody has mods you cannot undo.

A transgo replace springs, has clips that holds the governor open, and has a few holes drilled and maybe a valve ground down.

They are the two i've dealt with i'm sure other brands do similar stuff at least.

Best case is that you find the directions and the old parts and go backwards, but thats not likely, most likely you will need to get an unmolested valve body, maybe a governor and then check to make sure nothing is blocked in the case.

The shifter is in the right position, and I have no idea what the kit is. I just know it has a GM casted valve body.

If changers were made to the case, what would thay be? I have a stock valve body I can use if the case has not been modafied.

The trans works great, but I will be selling the engine and trans togather. The car was a drag car, and now it has a little warmed over 327, and a stock converter. It is a real mismatch with the full manual trans, and 4:88 gears. I will be building a 355 4spd combo for the car. The 327 and the TH350 will be going in a friends 1950 Chevy pickup.

I realy dont want to buy another trans, if this one can be put back to normal. The kick down cable is hooked up, and the vacume modulater is still in the trans. Thay were not needed, but never removed.

Hope this info helps with what I am dooing.

If the pattern is truly like you say it must have the cable mounted backwards on the Trans make it that way. Kind of stupid because you can still hit neutral accidentally any way. As far as manual valving I love it. Nothing like having full control of your shifts.

The pattern is what I said it is. I talked with the previous owner (A friend for 10yrs, he bought it in 1969 and made it a drag car). He did the transmission in 1973, and the car has sat since 1974. The kit is a B&M to the best of his memory, and does not remember making any changes to the case.

For my ATI kit I don't recall that I needed to modify the trans case the trans case.., most of the modifications to full manual involve removal of a band (intermediate band from what I recall?) and drilling of the passages and Deleting of the vac modulator & trans kick down system...
You could try to just install a unmodified valve body and the vac modulator and trans kick down...

This is what I am going to try. I have the stock valve body, B&M kit, vacuum modulator, and kick down cable, that came with the car. Wish me luck.

Thanks guys,
