I have the original wiring harnesses that I removed from my 70 BB. I was going to re-use after testing and visual inspection the same harnesses. I have friends that tell me not to use the old but buy new ones. Does the original insulation dry rot and crack? Money is an issue. I was going to perform megger testing (high resistance insulation testing) on all the wiring after a visual inspection. I do not know the thermoplastic make up of the insulation but will test at 125VDC for the 12 volt wiring. Has anyone ever re-used their original harnesses or am I being misled?
Also, what harness do I use to go to the starter motor? My car is not A.C. Anyone buy one recently? From who? How much? I know I do not have this one.
Thanks,
Roland

Donny, thanks for the advice. I really didn't know what the insulation was made from.

Gents., money is an issue, but not at the expense of my car which is going very slowly because of it. As an Electrician for many, many years, the insulation resitance test - Megger ohm test is the testint for testing wiring to be good or defective. Generally we test 10X the rated voltage or there abouts with modern thermoplastic heat and water-oil resistant wiring. When I removed the wiring from the car. I took alot of care to not mess any of it up and wrapped it in neat circular patterns as I would with any wires. So, my plan is to do what is done at the factory for the higher voltage wiring but at .120kvdc or 120 vdc and put the wiring in a galavanized can full of water (from the well) and leave the ends out, using the galvanized can as ground and test 1 conductor at a time. The entire environment is GFCI protected and the can is insulated on wood and rubber blanket.
I will determine good or bad depending on the results.
