Off topic, but I thought I'd start here. I just took possession of a 88 IROC with the 5.0 TPI and I know nothing about this set up. Can anyone direct me to a site, or book, or something to help me learn what all that "stuff" is under the hood?? Not looking to do any modifying, just want basic knowledge for tune up and trouble shooting some running issues.

Thanks..... :waving:

Check out Tuned Port Injection Specialties, or TPIS for short. Myron Cotrell is the master of the TPI setup. They have a book (Called "Insider Hints")that has a bunch of cheap, home-grown modifications (expensive ones, too) that you can do yourself, and they sell all kinds of stuff for the TPI motors. Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE) is a good place, too.

www.thirdgen.org is probably the best site for anything 3rd gen related. Is that a 5 speed car?
Oh yes, if it looks and sounds fast, it has to have a stick!!

caru68....I can't find anything on TPIS. Do you have a web address ??

http://www.tpis.com/

These guys sell nice stuff - a bit overprices in my opinion - but good stuff nonetheless.

Also try Street and Performance at www.hotrodlane.cc
They specialize more in fuel injection swaps, but they have plenty of cool parts and are very helpful on the phone once you get hold of them. They used to have a guide on TPI setups on their webpage, but I haven't been able to find it for awhile.

Good luck!

Thanks for the links, Elusive_R...I knew the name Myron Cotrell sounded familiar...turns out they are 40 miles from me !!

Anyone have a cheapy code reader ? Do they work ? Are they worth buying, or should I try to read the light flashing ?

Read quite a bit about the TPI on the web and it sounds like a good upgrade would be a newer harness that eliminates the MAF sensor. Anyone have any experience with this swap?

OK...enough questions for now...sheesh...this new fangled fuel delivery system is hard to learn for an old carburator man. :D
