Has anybody seen or have an opinion about the comparison between the stock 327cc GM rectangular port and the Dart 308 cc rectangular port for a warm 454? This would be for my car in the signature. Just wondering if it was a good move. As always TIA Mike

I gave my stock heads to my good friend who has a 427 Camaro when I bought the Darts so we could always swap back:p

I think you're fine with the smaller heads. I don't think that your rpm range will benefit from a big port head. I ran the Dart Pro 1 325 heads on my 509 at 7500 rpm.

Going from memory when I checked out a pair of the Darts, they have a much more generous radius on the short turns and better port shape overall. Long and short runners are a little more equalized plus the smaller and more efficient ports should make for more torque and hp. Good luck, that should be a beast!!!

Thanks for the responses the post about the Patriot heads has me thinking....and that can be and has often been dangerous.

Hi Joe the one thing I do like about the 308s is the bottom end hauls butt can't wait for T&T in March new fuel system new shocks & tires and a Pro systems 950 HP to try out.

Mike,

I think you have something wrong with tire psi or shocks or something, that engine of yours the way it site has a low to mid 1.60 60' i think and it did a 1.72, thats where your loosing at

Hi Butch my original passes where with borrowed 28x9 MT slicks KYB rear shocks and Monroe matic front shocks. The carb was a 3310 750 vac reworked by a west coast co. and was great for the street but at the track when it came off of the rev limiter it would have a huge backfire stand up and go. I'm sure that caused some loss in the 60'. I posted the problem but the only explanation I could get was a possible instant lean situation so I'm anxious to see how the changes will work.

Found it, I think i would go with a good 750 double pumper barry grant or pro systems

Wow, those shocks need to go, at least put the summit or competition engineering shocks on there. Also make sure the rears are on tight or medium posistion as this seems to put more weight or force on the rear tires if using like a m/t et street

That car has low 1.60 short times, maybe quicker

I just put Koni single adjustable shocks all around and have a new Pro systems 950 HP and ET Streets hope it improves.

1.72 is the best I could muster also, but I did have one heck of a stumble - that was rectified just one week before I pulled the motor. Wait till next year (I mean this year). Good info on the 308's though. My GMPP heads were 290CC, 308's are not much of a jump, so would think the bottum wouldn't drop much. Probably helps that the solid roller cam has a 243 intake duration, which after lash gets it to about 238 or so. Bet another 10* on the intake side would start to cause it to get soggy without more gear.

I had a flame thrower coming off of the rev limiter the backfire was so bad I do have the luxury of a deep first gear 3.27 and a 3.55 rear, I'm heading outside right now to run the valves while they are hot.

You have a better 60', i think those BB's have too much torque !! I wish i had some torque.

I did 1.68 60' times last year and they could have been better if we had more stall converter but oh well there is always this season

Your 60's will drop this year

Do you have moroso trick rear springs? If not, i think they would be a good investment. The right rear coil spring is stronger than the left rear coil spring to help it leave straight without an airbag
