Curious those running an aftermarket steering wheel, what size did you go with? I think most come in 13ish and 15ish.

Went from the Original 15" cracked hard plastic that stuck up above the dash line
to a Wood Grant 13.5" that is below the dash line

Grant 213 13.5" wheel. I like it, but I also have power steering.

I went with a 15 inch wheel in my 66 restomod for 2 reasons. I like to rest my arm on the armrest while driving and I gained better gauge visibility. Check to see if a 14 inch or 13 inch will obstruct your view before you buy. Make sure the wheel you buy also has the correct amount of dish for comfortable driving.

I have the same Grant wheel as shown in post #4, except mine has the brushed stainless spokes.
One thing not mentioned is comfort. I find the Grant wheel is perfectly sized for my hands, & has nice indents for the fingers. Very comfortable for long drives. A smaller diameter wheel [ than stock ] requires more effort to turn, so keep this in mind.

My car when I bought it had a grant 13” steering wheel. I tried a reproduction 70 SS one, and didn’t like it. Too thin in my hand, and stomach clearance suffered 😳
I eventually put a tilt column and seat track extenders on, and went back to a grant 13”. Then I improved the front suspension and enjoyed more spirited driving. The 13” steering wheel was just too small, and I felt like my shoulders were too wide and I didn’t have good leverage when steering, especially if carving a corner. I just recently put on a Budnik 15” steering wheel, and I love it.

roger that! Always liked steering wheels a little thicker

Using an 81 Z/28 wheel (that fake rope stuff) similar to the mid 70s vette/vega wheel
With a 12:1 box I think you could go smaller it will feel fine

While trying to look up dia on ebay shocked to see used ones getting 150-200 for a nicely done one and 350 for repops!!!HOly smokes, what happened to $40 all day lol. (wonder why less are in this hobby?)lol

Love it though still has a GM look to it.

I had one I just threw on mine for about 15 years, was supposed to be temporary but.... it was 13.5", thick grip and was never what I wanted. I lusted after a repro wooden 3 spoke wheel, but couldn't bring myself to spend the $$$. Recently I bought a simple 14.75" chrome center, foam grip Grant wheel. I'm happy with my purchase. I have manual steering and a non tilt column and fit just fine, but I'm not a real big guy.

This was my all time favorite, a vintage 13" Grant from the 60s, too bad it didn't match my interior..

The steering box ratio has a lot to do with it too.. I have a 14:1 Lee box now but when I first installed this wheel I had the stock Veri-ratio box and was amazed at how this wheel quickened the turning up..
