I am new to this forum and have just started restoring a 69 Malibu. I bought the car as a roller with the engine compartment pretty much stripped. I have the opportunity to buy a complete 94 z28 with 80,000 miles. Car has a junk title so he only wants 1600 dollars for it. I was wondering if anyone had done this swap and would love any advice or problems they encountered while completing the swap. Anyone know of any sites, threads, or forums related to this swap?

Thank you,
Matt

I have a couple of new questions on the swap.

I have the new caprice fuel tank in the car and the engine in place. First question would be what is the best routing for the fuel lines. Since I am running an LT1 I need a pressure and return line, does anyone have any pics of how they routed the lines even pics of an LS swap would give me some direction. I am thinking I will need to keep them on the driver side since that is where the fuel rail on the motor dumps out at. I am a little worried because the brake line is already running down that side of the car. I plan to run 3/8 steel fuel line the length of the car and transition to 6AN flexible line at the tank and the motor.

Second question deals with the transmission angle. I have the car up on a hoist and it really looks like the rear of the transmission is sitting at a steep angle (upwards at the back). I will take a picture of it tomorrow and post, but am wondering if I've got something wrong with the transmission mount. There is probably only an 1" clearance between the top of the transmission and the tunnel. I am currently using the stock chevelle transmission mount. I had to slide it back to get the location correct, but otherwise I thought the original mount would work with the 4l60. The car originally had a turbo 400 in it, I would think if anything the 4l60 would sit at a lower angle than originally at the back. Should I cut the bracket located at the center of the cross member and flip it upside down, this would lower the transmission by at least two inches. Please let me know if I am over thinking this, but am worried about drive shaft angle if I don't address it. I guess my thought would be that I would want the bottom of the transmission pan pretty close to parallel with the bottom of the frame??

I ran mine along the passenger side on my 65 Chevelle. I haven't had any problems in 7000 miles of driving. I run mine with a TKO600 and I have the opposite angle problem. I had to use spacers on the engine mount and mine looks like the tailshaft is pointing too far down. I used the stock transmission crossmember, just moved it to where it fit and redrilled the mounting holes in the frame. I checked the angles and it all seemed good so maybe it's just how it looks.
As for gauges, I used a stock 95 Camaro gauge cluster for my Chevelle but I don't think you have the dash for it.

Well I have been busting ass on this thing the last couple weeks and made a lot of progress. I hope to have it ready to start by the end of this weekend. So I figured out the transmission angle problem. I did some research and found out that they offered three different tail shafts on the 4l60. The caprice one has a separate cross member mount that sets higher than the one on the transmission body. I found a local shop that sold me the tail housing for 20 bucks!. Anyway, with the new tail housing the transmission sits perfectly. The new mount dropped the back of the transmission about an 1 1/2. I gave up on the 3/8" hard lines for the fuel and decided to go with 6an hose lines from the tank to the motor. I will try and add pictures sometime this weekend

I made some major progress on the car over the last several weeks! Actually started it a couple nights ago. I had it turning over last week, but could not get any fuel pressure. It ended up being a bad fuel pump. Once the new pump was installed it fired right up! Sounds great with the flowmaster exhaust! Next job is to get the doors and front clip back on it so i can measure for the new drive shaft. The car originally had a big block and is sitting way to high at the front. What springs should i use with the lt1? I was thinking stock sbc would be the way to go...
