Trying to start a 350 with a quadrajet carb after engine rebuild and and no luck. Removed the spark plugs and number 5 plug was saturated while the other plugs were dry. Cleaned plugs and reinstalled them with the same results, number 5 saturated and the rest dry. Crossed several wires to see if the engine would back fire and it did as it should. Engine will not start or fire at all when wires installed as they should be. It seems number 5 cylinder is getting all the fuel. I have been working on these engines for 50 + years and never seen anything like this. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Who adjusted the valves?

Hopefully it has a hydro roller cam. All those no start attempts would not be the best for a flat tappet.
