Morning fellow TC members..

I'm a long time lurker, occasional poster here...looking for a little bit of advice...I have a 69 Velle I'm wrapping up a 3 yr build on...took it down to the frame, new paint, motor, interior everything...have a question I am hoping I could get some feedback on...winter months are nearly upon us up here in New Hampshire, and I'm thinking about the motor in the old girl...Fairly new to the muscle car scene, and this is my first decent classic ...I had the motor built a year ago by a good friend of mine who's been doing it a long time. ITs done right, with good parts..here's my specs below

388 CI, 9.6 CR
AFR 195's
Eagle forged crank
Eagle forged H-beams
Mahle forged pistons.
INtake is a Perf RPM
Carb is a 3310
Cam is a COmp Extreme Energy 288 hydraulic roller with specs of..288/294 degrees, 110LSA , .520, .540 lift...

FIrst off...whats anyones guess on what kind of steam she makes? My guess is in the 450-475 range...Heres my thing...I have about a solid 7 g's into this motor..I'm thinking of putting a bit more into it in an effort get more out of it..My thoughts are a either 750 AED ,or Quickfuel, Air gap intake, and maybe a custom grind cam...its a street car with a TH350, 3000 stall, 3.73 richmonds, 2 1/2 pypes exhaust...

just looking for a little guidance on if the chips I'd throw at it will actually be worth it...I'd hate to throw another 1000 bucks at her for nothing....what say you gents?

Chris Straub is the man when it comes to camshafts, have him look at the camshaft and he will have a pretty good idea, if its the right or wrong combination with your cylinder heads.

As for the intake using an air-gap rpm isn't going to get you any more power.

The 3310 is a pretty stout carb with a bit of tuning, but I like AED products if you want a mechanical secondary carb.

I think you are in the ball park @ around 450hp.

Spend the money on nitrous, as the motor is stout enough where you can't do much more. I'd leave it alone and consider a power adder if you need to.

got it..thanks guys..

I think the tranny will be ok...I did have it rebuilt with a TCi Streetfighter kit...dunno if that really means anything tho...automatic trannies are kind a mystery to me in their actual functionality..:)

First, is this a car that will be driven on the street the vast majority of the time with the occasional trip to the track, or a track car that you might hobble down to the local Sonic on occasion.

If it's the first, it is hard to beat a nitrous system, you can turn it on, and off at will. Since the compression is below 10 to 1, you are not going to hurt anything since you have put some pretty good parts in the bottom end.

It looks to me like you have a well thought out combination here. Your cam is on the upper end for your compression, it should have a decent idle, probably around 13 inches of vaccum at idle, maybe a little less.Top power should come in at around 6200 in the mid 450 range.

You might find you won't need much more power. But if you do, without adding a "Power Adder", the cam is where you will find it. Cam gurus such as Chris Straub can maximize your valve events and get every drop of potential there is with the heads and compression.

It is easy to say, "put a real racing intake on it", and that will help, but then you have to close the hood.

I would do a hyd roller cam/lifters/springs.

Then get a converter matched to the combo. Several companies will have a 10 inch converter in the $400 to $450 range that will be matched perfect.

I would use that 3310 and rather then buy a new carb, spend the money on wideband o2 and learn to tune what you have.

thanks for the valuable input guys...this is certainly helpful...

the "other wife"...is basically a cruise around street car, take the kiddos to get ice cream kind of ride...It will rarely..if ever see track time...though curiousity has me wondering what it would do...:)...The convertor in it is a Hughes 3000 "pro-street" series...but I'm not married to it as an Autogear M22, or Tremec TKO600 is on the winter to-do list..:)..Regarding the cam, yes..I am running a Comp Extreme Energy 288 Hydraulic roller now with the retro lifters and ultra-pro mag rockers...man its easy to spend a lotta coin on valvetrain parts.;/...again thanks for the input guys...maybe nexy winter I should peddle the 388 and call Vortech Engineering...
