I need some input here,,, I adjusted the lifters in this 67 375 car by the book,,, 24 and 28,, car clatters like a b-tch,, reading past posts seems that the newer solid cams have much tighter clearence, and I have these way to loose,,,, I have no idea wat cam shaft brand is in the car,, but sounds like a stock 375 cam,, car runs very strong but sounds like hell,,,, any help???? Thanx Nick

I'm not an expert on solid lifters, but it seems to me there is a clearance for setting them when the motor is cold and one for hot.
My buddies Hemi has a solid roller and the specs on that are .022 cold.
24 and 28 seems big to me.

sorry can't help more than that.

24/28 is correct for a 'stock' 375 cam. But who knows what's in there now. The newer cams have different ramp profile and use less 'lash'. Might set them down to about .020 and try it. That's a fairly common setting for a lot of newer grinds, some even tighter. If you then have NO clatter, loosen them up .002 at a go till there is just a slight clicking.

I am running a solid 510 lift cam on stock heads, and stock rockers. We first set the valve lash at 25 thousands, but it was making a lot of noise. But we went back in and adjusted them to 18 thousands and no more noise, better throttle response and better idle. Some say that I am crazy for running a solid cam on stock heads, but its working. And the new heads are getting worked right now, so once they are back we will go with them and full rollers. Just my .02

Thanx,,, If my guess is right on the cam itself,,,, I need to go to the 20/20 should sound alot better than this 24/28 mix,,,, Nick

You can imagine how loud the Duntov "30/30" Corvette cam was but that's what it called for.
My experience with the earlier cams are that they're "naturally" noisier. It should not hurt anything going .002 tighter and you do have to consider that you just might have a non factory camshaft anyway. Make sure you adjust the lifters,
hot or cold, the same way you did before.

When I bought my car it had an L34 hyd cam in it with solid lifters (I discovered this later-it was supposed to be an L78 cam). When adjusted to 024/028 lash it would clatter like hell. Also hyd cam with hyd lifters loosened with lash like a solid will clatter bad. Maybe want to check into this.
