Iam debating what to do since the 454 came apart in my Malibu. Seems like the small block would cost less to build which at this point is better for me . I have a virgin 350 4 bolt main bolt with factory rods and crank , but the better rods and crank . It will need machined and i'll need i don't have heads for it either . I have only a couple things for it aftermarket . valve covers , roller timing chain , mild cam and lifter set new sitting here .
On my big block it trashed the block , 2 rods , the crank and 2 pistons . The other 6 pistons ( trw 2349f ) are still good . so i 've debated just ordering 2 new one . I have a 79 454 block here . The downside to what i have from the other motor that blew is the heads are rect. port closed chambered 3964291 heads , so if i decided to order new pistons instead of getting 2 replacements , i think i'd rather go open chamber . Ive heard mixed things on the closed chambered heads . Heads for Big block are out of my price range thou .

I think i may be able to get a decent price for the 291 heads i have , so i trying to fiqure out should i sell them and buy good set of small block heads and put together the small block , and then later slowly work on the big block or decide on ordering 2 replacment pistons and use the heads i have or order 8 new open chamber pistons and try to find a stock set of decent open chamber heads till i can get aftermarket heads .

I never really got everything down with the bigblock in the car . With the combo before, 2349f pistons and the 291 heads , it ran a best of 12.19 , but the 60 foot was 1.9 / 2.0 so iam sure it would have gone a little into the 11's as i later found out the front brakes are dragging and the trans wouldn't shift into 3rd unles i let off the throttle .
