If wear patterns did not matter then you could mix and match parts anytime. Like a set of wheel bearings, You would not mix one bearing with another bearings race.
I know were not talking about race type bearings but there are alot of mating parts here that need time to polish themselfs.
You can never get an engine clean enough when building it even lint will builup and microscopic grit thats why GM wants you to run it a while easy and change the oil to wash it out one last time.

I speak for myself and I don't assume I know more than the person I'm talking to and belittle them simply because I don't aggree with what they said.

I never said anything about 500 miles and don't subscribe to those lines of reason.

BUT when it comes to giving advice across the board I don't think "run the crap" out of it is that good, it may work for you but for the common Joe building a motor in his back yard and looking for advice it may not be the best thing for him to do that's all.

The last two bikes I bought a kx 500 and a vtx 1800 the shop broke them in before they would let them leave.
That was 5 20mph to 50mph pulls down the road.
I aggreed with most of your post untill you got to nail it!
And you know your right I would not build my own engines anymore (maybe on the keyboard) I would just hire someone like you to do all the dirty work.

Hmm
Oil depends on microscopic pits in the walls to help hold the oil up. too
fine of a cylinder wall will promote rapid ring wear from lack of oil.
Two strokes can get away with chrome cylinders because the oil is mixed in the fuel.
Thats why a hard break in will improve performance but not longevity.

You might consider this, you seem to find yourself in disagreement more often than not with people who have thousands of hours more experience (I do not include myself.) than you. Does that not register? How would you expect to have a knowledge base greater than some of the people who have responded to your post that have made their living for decades doing this type of work.
This is why I keep giving you a hard time you have never meet me you know NOTHING about me and any capable machinist forget it.

IAofM since 1976

The Bully's running around making everybody shut up and sit down and see that everyone is dumber than his friend.
This is the second time he did this to me since we meet two post ago.

I was going to ask the same question whats your background?

I'm not ashamed to share mine here goes:
15 years as a production machinist member of IAMA
1 world record
1 patent
Personal owner of 3 cooperations making 8 figures a year.
Emplying close to 100 people

You may think I'm dumb as you continue to insist but my wife and kids are extremely happy to live off what I know.

One last thing, notice I have only defended myself from your slander and never attacked you.:waving:
