got my chevelle convertible recently, chassis shot, spent months looking for a replacement, finally bought a gto with a good chassis. so... i'll brace her up, lift gto, take chassis, shine 'er up, and put it under my chevelle. i'd keep gto intact for future restoration, maybe.now that she is half apart, man, entire trunk area is like new, all braces are real good, rockers are very good also. cowl area has a little rust at bottom. i know for a fact i need a good deal of metal. would it be sacrilege to hack up that old goat?

Maybe I messed something, what year chevelle frame are you in need of? Also, I thought the only difference between the cocupe and the convert frame was one length of boxing in the center section, on each side. That's an easy do for a welding shop.

I'm gonna have a complete 67 coupe frame with running gear availble in the spring. If that'll help, let me know.

BTW - I'd rather have a Chevelle than a goat any day. Especially a rag top.

find a frame and leave the goat in one piece. Frames pop up here every so often. What about the guy that just located that junk yard in NY that hhe says has a bunch of velles in. Maybe there is one with a good frame there.

Absolutely, contact Sundell. His son sends them up from N.C., where my 72 frame came from. Some surface rust, blasted and powdered....better than new. If it needs bushing holes fixed, he has a local shop (excellent welder) do the repair. I paid $550. about 2 years ago. I hauled it out of Slippery Rock in the back of my pickup.

leo p, it is a '71 gto convertible, with a really nice chassis. i had been pointed to sundell's, but they wanted a small ransom for a chassis. tomorrow i lift the gto body, get the chassis ready for my chevelle. for now, the gto will be mothballed. in the years to come perhaps me or my son(s) will get to her. they are great cars too, but money does'nt grow on trees.
thanks, guys.

Sorry, I indeed love some year GTO's, but I can deny that they are better looking  The only year GTO I would consider swaping my 69 Chevelle for would be a 65, and it would have to be damn nice

Gaz and his Goat eating Chevelle :D

We're all entitled to our opinion, but that is one that I don't share

..I will say a black on black 68 Goat is a bad ass looking car (and my favorite year GTO),but I wouldn't give up my 70 SS454 for it.

Ditto, I think every year Chevelle is better looking than the same year GTO.
Taste is subjective.

But the GTOs do have a nicer interior most years, tend to have more nice options.

But for heavens sake don't destroy a restorable one. They are bitchin cars in their own right.

I love my chevelles, but I'd trade in a heartbeat for a GTO in the same condition.

Old cars are not made anymore,
cut up one for the other, shame, if the GTO
is in better condition... sell the GTO to buy the parts for your ragtop. sheetmetal , such as floors, trunk, etc... is avaliable in all
restoration parts cataloges.. ae YEAR ONE.

I will buy the goat, before you cut it up.

as to the frame, I hope the gto is a ragtop,
the hard top cars have a different frame
from the convertibles.

AGIAN... DO NOT CUT UP THE GTO
