Great advice above- 2000 to 2500 for the first half hour is what I've always set it at. Never had a failure with this.
I do two more things that have worked for me. One- I use a 1/2" drill and an old distributor modified where the counterweights and springs attach at the top, and use it to turn oil pump shaft until I see 30-40 lbs minimum of oil pressure before installing distributor. I do this just before inital startup. The pressure stays up quite a while, thus easing my worries about dry bearings and pumping up lifters.
I also have a garden hose available to help with cooling the engine, spraying the radiator periodically while withinh the 30 minute break-in time. The box fan does the most extra cooling but that hose does it more rapidly if need be.
