I know, I know, your foot is the best rev limiter. Problem is, some younger folks don't have that old-school experience some of us got from decades of driving muscle cars.

Anybody have any experience/recommendations? I'm considerning the Petronix 600 or the MSD Soft-Touch units. I'm assuming the in-distributor MSD HEI module w/limiter just dumps the spark all together as opposed to robbing cylinders to minimize fuel loading.

I'm using an HEI distributor in the 489BB I'm building. Don't want to go the 6AL route but I want to protect my engine against being over-rev'd by a less experienced person who is used to racing 12K rpm rice burners, not driving high performance big block American iron (read as - my son) :D

Just replaced my 6al with the MSD digital 6.Amazing the functions on this compared to the old MSD.Has built in 2 step, you can set your high and low rev limits anywhere you want with no pills. Also has timing retards if you run nitrous, also can retard your timing when cranking your engine at startup. All done with 7 little adjustable dials.Even has an led on the unit to help set your timing.

Yep MSD here. Love it!

MSD Soft Touch!!! Hid it up under the dash...

some tachs have a built in rev limiter. probably more than you want to spend and you might not want a tach..

I just replaced the old MSD HEI module with the new one with the rev limiter. Great peice. I used the Mallory tach with the rev limiter before that. What a difrence. The Malory was so violent, I thaught I blew the motor the first time I hit the limit. I highly recomend the MSD module!!! It hits just like the 6AL soft touch.
