i have searched through the archives and this is the best advise i found so far: 1)detergent and water then 2)sem-15 "sand free" plastic prep and 3)black laquer (pro color)
yes i want to paint the console but i have also heard of cleaning it with paint thinner. good i dea or no? And when i clean it should i use a scotch brite pad? Also how do i get all of the side chrome pieces off? its a 72 console.
thanks alot fellas

Steve,
I'd go with the soap and water routine. An old toothbrush and a little effort, and it should come clean enough for the next step.
Prep with SEM plastic prep exactly per the printed instructions on the can.
Finally, spray with SEM plastic spray, Satin Black. (Assuming of course, that it's a black finish you're after.)
The results are excellent.
Use SEM vinyl prep and vinyl dye for the soft interior parts. i.e.; armrest pads, dash pad, etc.
All the chrome is secured to the console with small trim clips like those that attach exterior trim. Remove the retaining nuts from the underside of the console. Very simple.
Good luck,
Patrick
