What is the correct way to use a remote starter switch to adjust valves? I don't want to burn up my ignition switch or damage anything?

Connect one lead to the large batt wire on the starter and the other to the "S" terminal on the starter ( the one closest to the engine ) Don't turn your ignition key on.

exactly.

if space is tough down there you hook one of the clips to the battery + terminal and the other to the "S" terminal on the starter.

or you can break into the wring harness where it comes out of the gutter on the firewall, find the fat purple wire and poke a needle through it, hook up there. The big purple wire goes to the "S" terminal on the starter.

If its a manual trans make sure it is in neutral and set the parking brake.

In anticipation of using a remote start button, I wired a jumper from the starter to a terminal that I screwed to the firewall. Now anytime I need to use the remote, I just clip one of the leads to the firewall terminal, and the other to the batt. Saves a lot of naughty words (I just use 'em some other time)!
