Hi all. Well, I was just waiting for something to happen at my place of business. I am in a small business district in a not so good part of town and I needed to work through the night to complete some projects. I went outside to move my car into the warehouse and there were 2 guys looking through my front door (all glass). Well, I ain't dying for ink on paper and I gave it about 20 minutes and quickly got in my car and left. Do I need a gun? I am not a huge fan of people carrying them though I do agree with the right to bear arms. I also feel that if you have a gun and pull it out for an intended purpose as say to protect yourself then you should have unload every bullet in the firearm and make sure there is only one side to the story. I use to hunt and do well with handling guns but the thought of this doesn't thrill me. But reality is I am in a tough area and I am sure my friends will all say I need to pack some heat and in fact a few of them make jokes about me not having a gun in the shop. Just looking for some opinions and any input would be appreciated. And last but not least, what would be a good weapon of choice that I would strap on to me when I am up there working around machinery that will not be so cumbersome?

if your working around machines there are holsters that allow you to carry & not worry about getting tangled up in moving parts ........ :D

Here in LA we are now allowed to carry guns in our vehicles. The issue is, can and would you use it if you had to? So many folks carry guns, but freeze up and wind up being shot or pistol-whipped by their own arms in times that rapid thought is required.

In your situation, a gun seems like a no-brainer for your personal protection. However, you might want to consider a camera system that's visible to help avoid the possibility of using it.

If you plan on staying late anymore, no brainer. If it were me, I'd definitely be packin. These crackheads will kill you for 5 bucks. Its you or them. That Kahr PM9 is a nice compact weapon. Just make sure you know how to use it well. Put a sticker on that door that your a member of the NRA or "This property protected by Smith & Wesson"

They are casing your place. They are probably looking for things they can recycle.

I would have called the police, then confronted them. Thieves don't like to be seen.

I would also keep anything of value from being visible from the front door.

Can't steal what you can't see.

I would only buy a gun if you think you can kill someone.

Great information.

IMO, I don't like the idea of advertising that a weapon may be on the premises, because it may only invite an armed robbery that may result in serious consequences. It may also invite thieves to burglarize the place in search of a weapon.

My B-I-L was a member of the NRA and had a sticker on his front door in a safe neighborhood, but once he got into collecting a slew of weaponry, he removed it for fear of his home being burglarized. At that time, a bunch of misguided youths were burglarizing homes in his area, until the Police nabbed the ****tums'.

Respectfully,
John R.

reality is that it is 2008 and the world is becoming a bad place.i think every citizen 21 and older should carry a gun.if you know that i have one,you are less likely to try to rob me for $20 so you can get high.i carry one and try to keep up with the laws.do a search of "stand your ground" laws and tell us why these states have adopted them.people are tired of it.

I think that Pepper spray in some situations is great, and can be effective, however, I also think that in some areas it isn't legal to use although it's legal to buy. I'm not positive about that though. Might want to call the local PD to find out.

Woe there, sometimes that will work, but if there's 2 or 3 of them, and only one of you, and you're not armed, that's inviting trouble to confront them. You cannot assume that they're just after recycled goods either.

I think the idea of getting a pistol permit is a good one ( I have one). But you need to always keep in mind that in most states, you can only use your firearm in a self-defense mode legally, when your life or physical well being is immediately threatened and in danger. When you're immediately threatened with bodily harm, and NOT just to pretect your property or your goods. if you shoot someone who isn't armed, just to protect your property, in some areas, you can be prosecuted and convicted. Be aware of that. it's only when YOU and or your family is personally threatened with bodily harm that you should ever pull your weapon out to use it.

I always carry my gun on me. Get a conceal permit. I never leave home without it, and when I am home, it sits right on my nightstand. There are a lot of crazy people out there. I've got a lot of different guns, but if you want one, that has good power, economical, and concealible, I use the Kahr PM9, which is a small 9mm with a 3 inch barrel. Awesome gun, and for such a compact piece it is highly accurate at the range at 15 yards, which in a situation like that, you would never use it further away than that.

I carry as well, I carry a Kahr K40, very nice gun. If your going to purcahse something to carry look closely at the kahr P series and K series. I used to carry a walther PPK but decided it was too small (.380) and moved up to my .40. Safe is always better than sorry, I garantee if your even in a life or death situation you will be happy you have a gun on you.
