I'm getting ready to paint my 15x8 rally wheels with the VHT GM Rally Silver paint I picked up from Summit and my father-in-law has thrown me a curve ball. He mostly restores Corvettes and asked if my rally wheels are like the Corvette rally's that have the semi-flat black on their back-sides. I'm currently under the assumption that they should receive the silver on both front and back. Am I correct in my assumption? Any verification would help.

Thanks in advance.

The rally wheels were solid black when sent from the manufacturer before they were painted at the factory. I bought some NOS 68 Vette rally wheels and they were the still satin black and have still never been painted silver. The factory only painted the front of the wheel and the lip so there is usually overspray on the black through the rally holes and on the inside between the beads. I have dismounted many original rally wheels that still had the GM sticker inside the beads and they were all this way.

All of them that I've seen were gray on the back side.

Dove gray ?
Now are you talking about 69-70 SS wheels or 8" Corvette rally wheels? I believe my SS wheels are the gray but my rally wheels are black. I have several 8" and other sizes that have not been repainted including my 14x7 Rally wheels off my 69 Camaro RS and they are all as I said above. I do not have many after 71 or 72 so some of those may be different but I do not know for sure. Unless you are doing a concourse restoration for points, which you probably are not doing because 8" rallys did not come on a Chevelle from the factory, it really does not matter anyway, go with what you think looks the best!

Concours correct is probably black rear sections with silver overspray coming through the spokes from the front sections being painted...but I always felt you could improve on what GM did:yes:...so I would go with your original plan of painting them silver front/back like the re-pop rally wheels are sold.

OOPS, I gotta quit skimming over posts.
Sorry, I wasn't thinking 15 X 8 even though that was the question because there is no such thing as correct 15 X 8 wheels on a Chevelle.

My 15 X 8's are flat black on the back side.
