Questions from a newbie

I might have found a car to purchase and I have a few questions. The car has no engine or tranny.
1.Are cars w/ shortened axles and tubbed wheelwells street legal (in AZ?)?
2.Is is possible to move a column shifter to a console shifter? How difficult a job (worthwhile?)? Console shifters look better to me and seem like they'd be easier to work on.
3.Is there any way to tell if a '69 is a true SS? I've read somewhere (?) that you can't if someone has gone through the trouble to "SS" a regular Chevelle. The seller says its "verifiable". Production sheet?
4.What would I look for as far as huge problems that should sway me into not buying the car?
5.Is it possible to add A/C to a non-A/C car? What is the largest cubic inch engine that will adapt an A/C unit w/o problems? It gets a little hot here in AZ.

I'm sure I'm missing a few questons. Thank you Chevelle gurus for helping out. I hope all goes well when I check it out possibly on Thurs. It will be the beginning of a dream come true to own a '69 SS Chevelle.

In 69 there were 2 colors that were SS colors only. "Monaco Orange" code 72, and "Daytona Yellow" Code 76. If the cowl tag has either of these colors it is a real SS. I believe that single pistons front disc brakes were standard equipment on a 69 and later SS cars. ALL SS cars had a 12 bolt rear, but if it is tubbed odds are its a ford 9". Other than that stuff you'd have to see the build sheet to tell if its real or not. You can make a column shift car a console shift car, All you would need is a floor shift column, console, shifter, and cable, I BELIEVE, I'm not sure though. It should be leagle to have a tubbed car in AZ, I don't see why it wouldnt be.
Don't know about the AC deal.

1- I don't know (Prob. OK But?)
2- Yes, Not TOO much trouble, very worthwhile IMO
3- POP build sheet ect. Just looking maybe maybe not.
4- Wrecked, badly rusted, extensive mods that are
not finished or done badly.
5- Yes, 502+ ci motor
And good luck on scoring a nice one if it turns
out OK.

It is legal to have tubbed cars on the street in Arizona. You should be able to get a Vintage Air A/C kit to fit just about any engine you decide to use. As for the rearend, all SS Chevelles did not come with 12 bolts. I have seen several of them that came with the 8.5" 10 bolt, mostly the small block cars.

Also dont go by paint codes only to prove a car is an SS. Cowl/Trim tags are being reproduced, you can have one made to say anything!

I didn't get it. After re-analyzing at my situation, I decided to hold off. One main thing is to have my car port built into a two car garage...to house a Chevelle securely. Patience, Grasshoppa!
