Hi All and thank you for all the great reference material here.
I have put a built 700r4 in my 72 malibu. The engine is a 1972 402 but not from this car. The intake is GM 6263753. The old quadrajet that I apparently did not examine carefully enough had no lower half to the throttle linkage. Being of unknown condition and the fact that I needed the cv cable linkage, I decided to replace it with another. I purchased an almost identical carb through SMI and it looks beautiful.
Here is the problem. It sits too low. The lower linkage sits on the intake manifold actually holding the carb up a bit. I figure thats why the lower linkage must of been cut off the old carb. The TCI throttle/cv cable bracket kind of confirms the carb is to low as it hits - won't even mount because it needs about 1/2" more height.
What am I missing? Is there supposed to be a carb spacer? Do I have the wrong carb? Am I just being dumb? Hopefully I have pictures attached below. Please Help and thank you in advance
