Im thinking of new rear shocks for my 64 since Im finally going to take it to the track this summer. My budget is limited. I think I can afford the calverts but if I save some more the qa1's. Is it worth saving up for the qa1's over the calverts? I have spa1 in the front.

If you are going to frequent the track save up for double adjustable shocks. Not familiar with Calvert, QA1s are serviceable for entry level.

The Calvert shock sure looks like a Rancho RS9000 series shock, in fact those were the rear shocks they recommended before they came out with their own branded shock. With a little research on the Rancho web site you can likely find a suitable shock and possibly save some money.

I wouldn't spend a penny on qa1 shocks. Calvert is an economical solution. Beyond that if it's an adjustable shock that you desire then save for a set of Strange or Afco double adjustables. Spend the money 1 time.

Calvert has his stuff scienced out. Many Stock Eliminator guys run his stuff. Buying his stuff and following his advice will yield good results.

I've used QA1 and JRI shocks. Will go QA1 on this Elk I'm currently building. Never known anyone using calvert stuff.

i have Santuff 200lb springs up front and Calvert split mono's and bars in the rear.
Clavert shocks all around. Rears are single adjustable. 1.45 '60 2nd pass on new motor.

You can see the white paint through the springs.:D

I do think they are Rancho's. I think they bought the patent.

this site is great, still learning more info, today on shocks

I'm pretty much a track rookie myself. But I followed Bob West advice and went with single adjustable QA1's on the rear. They have been good enough for 1.34 60's and it's really nice to reach under the car and adjust the shock in about 2 seconds for a soft ride while cruising.

Viking is a company that was started by some lead people from QA1, who wanted to start their own line. Reviews have not been bad. The big name shock gurus haven't picked them up yet, but also haven't thrown them under the bus. from what I have gathered front coil overs should be long travel for weight transfer, unless you need to keep the front down.

Not going to visit frequent one or maybe two times a year.

Yes affco sure looks nice but little to much money at the moment. May save up for Strange.

Viking has some reasonably priced double adjustables.
They look interesting but not much feedback since they are a new product. Saw that UMI carries them may be a candidate for me.

The Strange are nice for the money.

Yes they look real nice!
Its the double adjustable ones? True bolt in no modifications? Do you remember what part nr? S5064?
How do they work regular driving on the street?

Marcus

I bought the Viking Double Adjustable Shocks for the Rear from Ramey at UMI Perf

and also bought the Viking Front Coil Over Kit, Double Adj. Shocks for the Front

Car rides like a new vehicle on the road and in the corners , no leaning and stiff/smooth ride

Will have to wait until this spring/summer to try them out at the track !

Did the Vikings bolt on without modifying the A arms Kirk?

I put the New Coil Overs from UMI Perf on,
along with the New A-Body Tubular Upper & Lower Front A-Arm Kit also .

You should talk to Ramey to check if there would be any problems
with putting the Viking Coil Overs on to Stock Front Control A Arms

I do not believe there is, but better to check with him also .

The Rear Vikings Shocks bolted right to the stock shock locations with no problems .

The rear are double adjustable and a true bolt on , the front I went single adjustable and you need to grind the hole in the lower a-arm to fit . They give you a template for that. They work great for regular driving, adjust to your taste soft or firm on street. Yes part # S5064 for rear DA .
