Push button start

Hello I have been working on the interior of my 64 chevelle and have replaced my lighter with a push button ignition. The button is just above the ignition as both are right on the dash. I am just weary about the wiring. The push button has three poles, in a triangle. No wiring diagram I want to have it wired so that i will have to turn on the car with the key but push the button to start it. The car a push button but was disconnected, unknown what wires went to it.
to add more confusion, there’s a heavy red wire going to fuse relay, not connected and a green ground wire and a blue wire. I have the dash out of the car. Got the wipers to work light work, ignition turn on. Excuse the mumble jumble just trying to be clear.

pictures would be alot clearer than your mumble jumble (your words I just agree with them)

it would also help if you used the edit button and corrected all your typos

I just installed a push button, fobb ignition in my 71 gmc, and its not clear at all what exactly you have or are trying to do

He's obviously trying to learn from our expertise.
I'll draw a diagram and post a photo later.

Generally speaking though you need to connect a 14 ga wire from the key switch "RUN" position terminal to one side of the push button switch. Run a 14 ga wire from another post on the push button switch to the "S" position of the starter's solenoid. A direct battery cable connection from the positive battery post to the main lug of the starter is probably already connected.

I would advise that you replace the 3 pole push button switch with a 2 pole switch and eliminate the confusion.

One more thing. Are you using a points distributor or an electronic one?

The problem is, you would not want to use 14 ga. when the factory used 12 ga. for the starter solenoid circuit. You would also not want to take power from any "run" circuit to energize the solenoid. The factory used the main incoming B+ line and then used the ignition switch to short main power to the solenoid circuit during the 'crank' position.

You could use switched ignition power (aka 'run', if you will) to provide power to relay coil. The relay would be energized by completing the relay coil's (+) terminal to power via the pushbutton. The relay contacts doing the heavy lifting would short the main red power feed to the purple solenoid circuit.

But enough on that!

I would agree on the above post. This is not something a newbie should be attempting if the rest of the car wiring is questionable at best, let alone questionable with a new owner that is not familiar with wiring.

My 51 Chevy still has it's original push button for the starter------------------ and it works like brand new.
Also, the 51 has an electrical advantage, MOST of the wiring is original 6v (heavier gage) and it's been converted to 12v.

I converted my 1951 Chevy to key start. Used a 1954 ignition switch and never looked back.
