That is the hard way to do it. It may be difficult to get back in.

This is how I do it. Remove the driveshaft and shove a yoke or plug into tailshaft, remove the distributer cap, remove the shifter handle and boot, unbolt pipes from headers, unbolt trans mount, unbolt crossmember, jack up engine under oil pan, remove crossmember, lower engine, unbolt and remove transmission.
EXACTLY as Philip described it above!
If you have the exhaust connected, you DO NOT need to support the rear of the engine with the tranny removed. The ex pipes will support it just fine with ZERO problems.
With that tranny cross member out of the way, it will be sooooooooooooooo much easier installing/removing the tranny! :thumbsup:
