Well i just got my alternator cleaned up and mounted today, along with my water pump pulley, balancer, and crank shaft pulley. i think the balancer is the original one to my L30 engine sitting in the garage, the crank shaft pulley is one my dad grabbed from the garage, it might be a big block one? it fit the balancer so i assumed it would work. does the balancer need to go on more? there is a gap between part of the balancer and the timing cover seal. I put the balancer on with a crank shaft bolt, the bolt either bottomed out or the balancer is on all the way. also is my water pump pulley an original? is it a big block pulley? I found one that is for a bb camaro on google images. thank you:thumbsup:

i may take it off and put it on my L30 in the garage which is what the balancer came off of. but the pulleys line up(almost) so i think it may be on all the way? i may have to put a couple washers between the balancer and pulley to bring it out a tiny bit to line up better. and since i have power steering, don't i need another groove on the crankshaft pulley? i was going to order a repop of the original PS bracket for a 67 chevelle off of ss396

L30 is a 275hp/327, its the original engine to my car and it is in the garage. the engine in my car now is a 67 327 but its not out of a chevelle. and yes short water pump, http://www.buickfarm.net/index.php?option=com_redshop&view=product&pid=553&cid=5&Itemid=117
found this link through google images, looks like a 350 pulley from the 70's, which would make sense since my manifolds were also from a 70's 350. and the lip fit in the damper so it must be a sbc pulley on the crank shaft.

is there a big difference in the groove placement between say a 70's 350 and 67 327? maybe its a long vs short water pump placement? was hoping i could re use these pulleys since i already have them and because i'm on a small budget for now

Yep, definitely a short-long water pump problem. think you have a short pump and pulleys for a long pump. Easiest might be to just get a long pump, as long as you have enough room. Maybe someone nearby has a long pump you could borrow to see if you have enough room? I think the long pump setup is better, space allowing, as the alternator mounts to the end of the cyl head, rather than the exhaust manifold.

Hmm ok I will have to look into replacing the water pump pulley then, since i know for sure it is not like the original one. That is an option too but i'd like to keep it looking semi original, and i don't think it was until 69 or something where heads started having bolt threads added to them. Both of my 67 327 heads do not have provisions for the cylinder mount bolts so i am stuck with the original setup. here's a pic of some 462 heads off of google http://image.chevyhiperformance.com/f/9196689+w750+st0/0605ch_05_cylinder_heads_z.jpg

'67 & earlier L30 327's were all originally factory equipped with Short Water Pumps...

I don't believe that is the correct L30 Water Pump Pulley,

Also, I am assuming you used the big ( about 1/4" thick) balancer bolt washer, correct? Otherwise your pulley alignment could be about that much off...
Does the 2 groove correct pulley come as close to the water pump as the 3 groove i have on now? i'll attach a pic to show how close it is.
and i think i will go with this setup that is in the assembly manual, since i have PS
And yes I do have a thick washer, i will include that pic as well
