Ijust replaced a 283 for a 350 in my 66 I have a edelbrock fuel pump and carb The fuel line comes off the pump to a filter to the carb the gas seems to empty out of the line if the car sits for a couple days then takes a long time to get to the carb when i try to start it my battery gets really weak sometimes before it will even start is this normal?? also when the car is running the fuel is pulsating in the filter should the filter be full with gas its like almost spitting in the filter ???

Even if the line is draining back ,the carb's fuel bowl should have enough gas to get you restarted even after sitting.
Prior to your next restart ,remove the air cleaner and see if you get gas from the accelerator pump -stroke the throttle with the engine off & look down the carb.
This the standard Edelbrock or the QJ style carb ?

If you can't crank the engine long enough to bring fuel from the tank to the carb without the battery dying--I bet you have a defective battery. Time to have the battery charged and the charging/starting power team tested.

Yes, the gasoline will "pulse" in the fuel filter.

If you connect a vacuum gauge to the INLET of the fuel pump--and with a good battery:
1. How much vacuum can you develop by cranking the engine?
2. Does the pump hold the vacuum after you stop cranking?

i will have to try the vaccum, but when i am starting it the engine is turning over and over then you will start to see gas in filter and then it will start soon after. then it starts right up every time after. its a new edelbrock fuel pump and a standard carb 600cfm model i think 1405

"New" doesn't mean SQUAT.

There's plenty of NEW DEFECTIVE parts out there.

Another issue is residual engine heat evaporating the fuel in the float bowl(s). Although I have not personally experienced this issue, it seems that lots of other folks have. I was reading a posting about this issue yesterday; if I can find it again I'll link to it.

Vincent, the pump may be sucking air from a cracked fuel hose, back near the fuel tank. Follow the fuel line from the engine bay all the way back to the tank and replace any old dried up hose that you find.
