I went on a bit of a long drive yesterday about 116miles round trip. My grilfriend and I went to her anut and uncles house in the mountins (we live in the valley). So it was a lot of uphill driving.
My engine never reached over 160*. Not once not at any light not when we stopped for gas never. The temps stayed around 155* maybe a bit cooler. With a th350 and 4.10s the rpms are high enough to warm up the engine fast. Im thinking my thermostat failed. I have a failsafe in there now I havent checked if it is stuck open but I will once I get out there a little later today.
Could it just be that my engine is overcooling? My 383 has aluminum everywhere lol. Yesterday was the first I noticed it. Before the temps would rise to around 190* then drop to 170* then back and forth all while I drive. The temp sensor is right by the thermostat in the intake.
31x19x3 Griffin Radiator w/o trans cooler
Eddy Victor series high flow water pump
Brodix IK200 heads
Eddy RPM air gap intake
180* thermostat
5 blade flex fan
Thats a lot of aluminum lol could it just be over cooling? The weather driving up there was around 85*. On the drive back at night it was about 70*.
