I have experiemented with different octanes at the track. I was running 10.5 : 1 compression. I tried 110 and 104. My times improved with 104.

My understanding is more octane reduces the point of predetonation. If you do not have a problem with knocking then increasing octane is a waste of money.

At 9.0 : 1 you should be able to run punp gas. I would try the highest octane you can buy at the pump and compare it to the 104 you get from Sunoco. I would not be surprised if your best performance came from the pump gas.
