I installed a new float bowl and reattached the float mechanism in new one.. When started car it spilled gas thru the adjustment screw all over.. Even when car is off but ignition on with electric water pump was just coming up and out like crazy..yes, the bowl is tight on carb... Have I stewed down the float so much that is keeps calling for fuel?? Thanks, new to this work...thanks,, it's a 850 double pumper if it matters...

Just went to Holleys utube to see how to do this,,,,I'm wondering if during reassembly I have float to high? Not sure how since I reversed what I did taking it off old bowl unit..so now I'll remove sight screw and start there....thanks

Ok after watching the adjustment videos, if my float was allowing too much fuel to adjust with the screw, after I again remove the bowl, how do I adjust then bowl itself to get it close enough to adjust withnscrew when back on carb????

Are you sure you have the spring installed correctly? If not it will pull the float down causing fuel to enter the bowl as the float cannot rise.

Initial set is close when top of float is parallel to the top when bowl is held upside down.

Thanks Levon so are saying that if the top of the float is parallel to Top of bowl when held upside down that the spring is correctly set then??? It did seem a little "tight" held upside down when I removed it the first time...

Hi Geo

No it's 2 separate items; you set the float with the bowl upside down as noted above. You have to ensure that the float, it's pivot pin, spring and perch are installed correctly first.
Clearer now?

Ok, I took off the bowl, reset the the float (hard for me to tell if it's right), reinstalled and then adjusted nut on top to where when I remove the sight screw the fuel is just at bottom of that hole after turning on electric pump....sound right??? Thanks for helping

Geo.that sounds good. Check both one at a time when running.

Ok next problem!!!! Think I have fuel bowl issues solved.. Went to start car, when turning car to start, just makes a sound like it's going to crank and nothing..no turning over, no "clicking" just a engage sound then nothing... Full battery charge... It started once yesterday.. Is my starter fried??

Check the battery cables and make sure they are clean and tight and try a booster on the battery. You may have 12 volts but not enough amperage to start the car.

Just a thought- if you have an electric fuel pump and it was forcing a lot of fuel into the carb during your leaking all over episode, you may be experiencing hydro-lock. There could be enough fuel that ran ito your intake that the tops of the cylinders are full of gas and it won't allow the pistons to move.
Check by pulling all of the spark plugs and then see if it turns over. Spread an old towel over each cylinder bank first, though, or your fenders will possibly get a petroleum shower (ask me how I know). It's a little bit of work, but you have to pull all of the plugs so that all of the cylinders have no pressure on them, or you could bend a rod (at worst). You could possbly check one or two cylinders first by pulling a plug and feeding a short length of rope (like clothesline) into the sparkplug hole and see if it comes out wet.

Good Luck!
