Regarding having both a Modem and LAN connection, in Internet Explorer, you can set up your connection so that it only goes to the modem if the lan connection isn't there, automatically, so depending on which card you have installed, it knows where to go. Also, (I'm not sure about WIN95 on this one), if you "hot-swap" the modem and nic pcmcia cards using the pcmcia manager, the configuration for each card is put into effect automatically. I know that with my laptop at work, if I put a nic pcmcia card in after I'm up and running, it will take me through the network login and map drives etc just as if I had booted up with it installed.
Just something to think about, as I am a firm believer in "if it's not broke, don't fix it", particullary when it comes to other people's computers
