Ok, tried to drop my 454 in on the weekend, it looks AWSOME all painted up, gold heads, black block and oil pan. Then UH OH, the oil pan hits on the crossmember and won't let the back end of the engine drop down enough. Not the bottom of the pan hitting, it's the front of the sump. SO, hauled out the big hammer, did some "customizing", no good. that sucker won't fit.
Called around today for a new '71 chevelle 454 oil pan, ok I can get one, BUT it is gonna cost $225 Canadian! Now i dunno about you but I think that that is a TOTALLY unreasonable price for a molded piece of frigin tin. Especially when summit sells a stock replacement small block pan for 30 bucks american (bout 50 canadian). So what should I do? Should I get a truck pan and move the crossmember on the engine ahead a couple inches? I have all the equipment needed to do this, I just don't like the idea of doing it. Or is that actually an OK price and i should just buy it, or should i hold out for a used one? Thanks.
