How am I going to cruise Team Chevelle at work without this? Its a emachines s1642. All was fine when I shut it down Saturday before going home. So I go to work Monday morning and it won't startup. I can hear the fan and the light on the tower comes on the monitor only shows the icons like its in the monitor adjustment menu. I brought the tower home and plugged it in and hooked my home monitor to it and I get the same thing, so I know its not the monitor. I opened up the tower to look for loose connections, found none. I saw the little battery cr2032 so I pulled it and tested it with my multimeter it was dead so I got a new one and installed it. No change. My kid thinks the video card is bad? But what does he know he's only a kid! Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks.

Your kid may be on the right track. my computer done the same thing and i took the video
card out, blew out everything with some canned air put it back together and it was fine.

Kid was right, I found a local guy on Craigs list with a bunch of computer parts for $20 went and picked them up had 2 video cards in the lot. popped one in and everything works again. Damn Kids!

This is a perfect example of why I recommend people leave their machines on 24x7. Power surges kill. Put it in power save mode if you are concerned about usage.
