I finally got to test fit the new headers on my '66 Chevelle. The passenger side doesn't fit. I can't get the header to go foward enough to line up the bolt holes. The tubes curve down too soon and are hitting the frame.
These are my new headers:

They're 1.75"x3". My old 2"x3.5" Hookers cleared the frame fine. The only thing I think might not be right with my car is the motor mount brackets. (The brackets that go from the frame to motor mount.) I'm not sure if they're correct. I once heard they were different between the big and small blocks and I think I got mine from a small block car. Would this cause a problem with the headers fitting?

It's been talked about here alot and most say heddman's for a 66. PN 68196

I ordered a set of Hedman coated headers for my 66 with a BB and the correct frame mounts and had the same problem, I called Summit and they let me ship them back and pay the difference for Hooker Super Comps 2 inch coated headers and they fit just fine.

man i hate to hear that. :( whoever told you that you needed to swap out Hookers for one of the cheapo brands should kicked in the groin. :)

not sure about 66's but i used the same mounts for frame and engine for both my 454 and my small blocks in my 71 chevelle. i think they're different on 67-69 camaros but i was pretty sure Chevelles were the same.

Re: My new headers don't fit --UPDATE--

I went ahead and bought the Hedmans. They fit perfect. I wish I would have just spent the money for these in the first place. I'd be back in the drivers seat and not on the creeper by now. Summit was really good about taking back the other headers too. I only have good things to say about their customer service. Thanks for all of the advice.

I still need to put the tranny back in before I go and fire it up. I can't wait. I've never fired it up with open headers in my new house.
