I just installed my megashifter in my 70 elco and from where i mounted it to the trans is like 2 feet at max i have a standard 5ft cable i looped it once to make it work but at this point my shifter feels really hard to pull into reverse and to ratchet. Is this because of the looped cable? Or are there some lube points on the shifter i can make sure are good?

Everyone of the Megashifters that I have ever used are inherently tight. They break in eventually but are still tight. It seems once a cable is hooked up to a trans on it that is where the fun begins. I think the leverage fulcrum on this shifter is off from where ideal needs to be. I previously had the quicksilver and it was much nicer witht eh smae cable routing. I want to switch back to that and get rid of the Mega when money allows.

Ok next question if anyone is still reading this post. I am hoping to install my new motor and trans (700r4) and the shifter didnt ratchet all the way to a 4th gear. I downloaded the instructions from B&M but didnt see if i need to remove a piece or add a piece to make it work with my new trans....

The shifter is probably missing the detent for 1st gear. If you look you may be able to take it apart and grind another notch in it or you may be able to buy the correct plate thru B&M.

SeventySS,

Go here: http://www.bmracing.com/media/products/pdf/7.pdf
On page 2 figure #1 look on right side about half way for " Remove this blocker pin and the two e-clips for GM four speed transmissions"
That is what you take off to get the fourth gear for a 700R4.

I had a problem in my old 65 and actuslly broke the cable after a while. The problem was where the cable went through the floor. It would go down at the angle off of the shifter and then hit the trans case and pushed the cable up making it really tight. When I replaced the cable I re did the hole and it worked better.
