I have my engine and tranny in the car and have done a break in on it and ran it periodicly to keep it fresh while i finish the restoration. its a 396 with a 4 speed muncie

i noticed that while im running the engine that the tail shaft on the trany is spinning. Did i install my clutch wrong? should it move at all? Its in neutral. thanks for the advice.

I take it the car is on stands with the rear tires off the ground? Its pretty much normal because of the friction on the gears and such inside the trans. If you tighten your grasp on the drive shaft it should stop.... more friction.

If you turn the input shaft with the transmission in neutral without any load (drive shaft out)the output shaft will move.

Alright thanks guys, this is my first 4 speed car and was nervous i had done something wrong with the install. i can rest easy now, thanks again
