I have a 71 cehevelle daily driver. I have a th350 in it right now, its begoinning to crap out on me and I'm thinkin I'm going to go to manual. the car was originally setup up[ for an automatic so there are no holes for the stick or for the clutch pedal. I need to know what type of manual transmission what kind of clutch I need if I need to get a shorter/longer driveshaft, or get a new crossmember and all that good stuff. I'm on a very tight budget like all of us so I need to see what kind of transmission is money conservative and is good for daily driver, but still good for a little red light racing! any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

also I have a stock 350 sb, but I want the transmission to be strong enough so I can do some mods to the engine later on. Not big mods or anything but little stuff, just to get some extra horsepower.

I'm sure a lot of folks will chime in with their junkyard suggestions, mine is save your dough and get a tremec. It will hold up to anything you can throw at it, and you have O/D.

I agree, a lot of the newer trannies that you would find at a junk yard can't hold alot of the power guys are making now.

If money is real tight rebuild/replace the 350, if you have enough to do a 4 sp. conversion but not $2500 for a tremec try a mid to late 70's super t-10 borg warner they are pretty strong and built properly will handle 600 ft.lbs. of torque. We use them in our stockcars and they take a pretty good pounding. Yes i know guys it won't take a real hard 1/4 mile launch with solid hook and slicks but the guys on a budget.
