Every reference I've seen shows option code C05 for a manual top, and C06 for a power top.

The build sheet for my 72 clearly has C05 for the top. Does that mean the car originally came with a manual top? I can't believe that to be true. Did they even offer manual tops in 72?

Just curious...

Well does it have one now?

The built sheet is gospel and if it says manual top, thats what it came with.

Are you sure you have the correct build sheet for the car? Several onwers have found build sheets for adjacent cars on the line in thier cars. I even heard on Monte Carlo owners finding Chevelle BS in the car.

Does it say C05 Manual Top or something like "C05 Folding top"?

I thought 1969 was the last year of the manual top. Under Regular Production Options and Dealer Installed Accessories, the Top options for 1969 GM lists both "Folding convertible top" as C05 and "Power convertible top" as C06. For 1970, GM lists under Extra Cost Options, Top - "Folding Top Colors" as C05. No mention of a power top - maybe all convertibles had power tops from 1970 on? Maybe someone with some good dealer literature on 70-71-72 might have an answer like, "New for 197x, manual convertible tops are a thing of the past."

It has a power top now. Original dash had what appeared to be a factory installed switch in it. Cylinders looked original too, when I replaced them.

Build sheet is definitely for this car. I have two, and they are both the same and the numbers match the trim tag.

Build sheet says "C05 FOLDING TOP".

Your reference of CO5 (manual/"standard") and CO6 (power/"option") is correct up until 1971 at which time I believe the power top became your only choice and thus became the "standard" as CO5 from that point going forward.

Dale - I believe both CO5 and CO6 were still available in 1970. My Van Nuys buildsheet lists both CO5 and CO6 in the RPO listings in the lower half but the CO6 has a = in front of it which would indicate to me which one the car came with. Several material references I have show that CO6 was only available as an option at an extra cost in 1970.

Thanks, Dick. My "GM Restoration Kits" show manual tops up to and including 1969 but the 1970 doesn't mention a power top option but rather lists C05 as Folding Top Colors. Looking further into the "Extra Cost Equipment" list, it does show Power Top, C06 under "Power Assists". Another mystery solved
