Sorry for the long post but it’s been on my mind for quite a while now.
I use the various websites for car enthusiasts looking to purchase vehicles as counting sheep at night. Don’t judge me😂. I scroll through looking at what’s out there, keep track of market prices, and admire folks ideas of what they’re selling until I get sleepy.
My general question is…why do people put prices on cars for sale and literally sit on a car essentially forever, never getting any bites and never lowering the price?
I see cars on CL in my area (and on eBay) that have been up for sale for years and never see any price reductions. Basket cases that are either too far gone or too far out of a persons money or skill level to repair, and/or finished cars. In the end, they’ve turned their garage/space/farm into a dealership lot without any customers.
2nd question: Why not lower the price to allow others to build or buy the car of their dreams?
I’ve always knew that when getting into this car game that you’ll never get out what you put in monetarily (unless you bought it way back in the day and are an original owner). With every passing day the car is obviously getting older. Meaning the styling, the paint, the interior, etc. are becoming dated (except for all originals) and as people search for a vehicle, they factor in rebuild cost. Only adding to the price in their head including buying and shipping the seller’s usually outrageous price too.
Seems like only when spouses pass away (and if they are not into cars and decide to sell a vehicle) they ultimately cherish the memories they had while riding in the car and don’t mind not getting top dollar for a vehicle is the only time you end up with a decent price.
