I just checked out the "bench racing" topic on a new LS6 that's a small block. I am kind new school and don't know all the "LS" lingo. And that really threw me for a loop!

Is there a set decoding that I am missing here? Just list what all ones you can think of (LS86 etc.) and What they mean. Is it just a motor package or interior also?

Ok, LS6 is nothing more than an Regular Production Option code(RPO code) given to all General Motors corporation options. There are literatly thousands of these RPO codes. There are some that are very well known to collectors, restorers and hot rodders alike. Some of these codes include.
LS5 - 454cu 365hp
LS6 - 454cu 450hp
Z28 - Special performance package for Camaros
LT1 - Special high performance 350cu engine installed in Corvettes and Z28 Camaros.

Some of the more lesser known codes include:
G67 - Controller for Air Shocks
GT2 - 2.29 rear axle ratio
GS6 - Differential Carrier, 4.56 rear axle ratio
V75 - Traction Dispenser set-up
C48 - Heater Delete

All the LS# codes prior to 1976 - There are many more codes that start with L or LS they just don't have a digit in the 3rd spot, they have a letter.
LS1 - LS1 427cu 4bbl - Regular Fuel
LS3 - 1970 - 402cu 330hp, 71 - 402cu 300hp...240hp in '72
LS4 - 454cu-235hp - 4bbl
LS5 - 454cu 365hp ... 270hp in '72
LS6 - 454cu 450hp
LS7 - 454cu Special High performance - (not believed to ever have been installed in a production car) This was sold over the counter as a crate engine.

After 1976
LS1 - 1997-present - Aluminium 5.7 liter V8 currently being used in Camaros, Firebirds and Corvettes.
LS2 - 1985-1986 4.3 liter diesel V6
LS3 - 1987-1993 1.0 or 1.2 liter 3cyl turbo
LS4 - 1976 7.4 liter (454cu) V8 - 215hp
LS5 - 1980-1981 4.3 liter V8 2bbl
LS9 - 1977-1986 350cu V8.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions, just post them.
