Hey all! I am new but was hoping I could get some advice from you all as I am looking to possibly add a Chevelle. Even though I have been doing research, I thought it would be best to pick the brains of some people who would know a lot more then me! With that said a car that is not terribly far from me and within budget is a tribute. With that said, it does not bother me that it is not a true SS, but I am more concerned about the price being fair for what it is. Here is a link to the car, any help would be greatly appreciated!

 
I can't blow pics up but is that a 10 bolt rear? and I really don't like the chrome rad cover but I think they're very common I painted mine black, Pass side door window to quarter window fit looks a little funny and some thing with the cowl screens looks off? I like the color combo and drain train but for $80K should have more detailed info in the add, JMO I'd also want A/C for that $
 
The selling dealer got that car in the 50s I’m sure. Low 50s. If your not looking for a garage queen and want something that is a very nice driver and don’t care about the car being a true SS you should be able to find something very nice in 50k price range.

Yup. 10 bolt rear.
 
I recently bought a nearly original (only a repaint in the factory color) '67 that was family owned for 50+ years and I bought it from a dealer down South (I believe it was on consignment). Everything checked out online and the photos were really nice, but it isn't perfect...no unrestored car is, but at least is's a true 138 SS, it's numbers matching and has much of what I was looking for. I can't believe I bought an automatic but, like I said, it just drew me in and I can appreciate cars that haven't been screwed with. I even have the protect-o-plate and original owner's manual in the original glove box! I think I'm the 3rd owner.

It really depends on what you are looking for, how much of a purist you are, what you want to do with the car, and etc. For me it had to be a 1967, since I owned one new back in the day and I really love that body style! It might be a Turbo-Hydramatic car but it has a 12 bolt rear! I wouldn't buy a Chevelle with a 10-bolt diff personally.

The car you are looking at presents very well for sure, but I agree with others that the price is high. about $20k less would still be high for a Malibu dressed in Super Sport clothing. Of course, if you really like the car, and you drive it and look it over since you are close by, I'd at least do that and see how you feel about it then. You can always offer less money if that car "pulls you in"...you'll know the feeling if it happens! :) $40k to $50k range is likely more in line with the true value of that one....but, again see it up close since it's not far from you. I'd at least do that so you will gain some experience.

My biggest thing is I want a clean car, that car is fairly close, and appeared to be clean, price was the big concern, thanks for the replies so far!
My advice is to avoid dealers. Many are grossly overpriced and they know nothing of the history of the cars they are selling. I'd look into the places private owners go to sell their cars. ANY car you are considering should be looked at in person or by a representative who knows Chevelles BEFORE any commitment is made. Not looking at a car in person is a rookie mistake.

Disagree. No way in hell is that a 40k car. 50k no less, probably more. Clone or not...even with the10 bolt...
 
I don’t trust that there aren’t a lot of side views and the ones that are there seem to show some less than cleanly aligned panels. Agree with the others that it‘s a really nice car but I think $80k is a dealer number. I would expect somewhere between $60-$70K.
