This is an add on from another post. It was stated that a lock right should never be used with synthetic fluid? Does this come from powertrax? The owners manual says use any gear fluid, and they recommend adding Lucas Oil Stabilizer.

I am going to install the locker on Fri, and want to make sure I use the right fluid.

Thanks
Steve

I can't understand where synthetic lube would negatively effect a Powertrax unit being that it functions mechanically and does not use clutches to lock axles.
In fact, IMO, I would think the added lube properties of synthetic would be a bonus to a Powertrax.

I think it will stop it from locking up as well

The oil should not effect it locking up. Once you look at one in person or install one you will see how it works. There are no clutches. I ran Mobil 1 in mine for years and never had an issue. I didn't see anywhere that said not to run synthetic oil. I am not telling you you should or shouldn't only sharing my experience. Give Powertrax a call and see what they recommend. I would be interested to hear what they have to say. My current projct has a 9" with a Detroit Locker and I am debating on which lube to run in it.

I just called Richmond Gears and he said that the mechanical lockers (LOCK RIGHT) are NOT lube sensitive like those that use clutches. He added that synthetic fluids are just find, but said it really didn't matter one way or the other.

Haha awesome, thanks guys. I make a post in the morning and have an answer when I get home. There's even people calling Richmond, this is the greatest site ever. :D

Yes by looking a the design I could not see how synthetic would be a determent. Just wanted to make sure.

Thank you again,
Steve

I've had a Lock Right in my truck for about 9 years, and it's had Amsoil 75W140 synthetic oil in it the whole time. I've put around 100,000 miles on it with no problems. My Camaro has a Detroit Locker in it with Amsoil 75W90 synthetic oil and it also has had no problems.
That amsoil is good stuff. I have the 75w90 in my M22 and it works great also
