I have two orange wires, one with an inline fuse, that go to a relay mounted above the AC box. One of the orange wires comes out of the AC box and then goes to the relay. the unknown wire is with a purple wire and another wire {Never followed either of those two wires)that has a high temp covering on it in the loom that is mounted to the firewall that has the passenger side windshield washer hose in it. I also found another orange wire that was hanging down on the firewall. I thought it went to the temp. sender but it goes to the trans. I found green wire that looks like it goes to the temp. sending unit. Could the orange wire be the other wire for the kick down switch??
What color are the wires that go to this switch. And where/what loom should I look for them. Is it a molded plug? The switch has two male connectors on it. I found one orange wire with a female end on it that goes to the transmission. Has 400 trans The car had aftermarket guages on it. thanxs david

The engine harness has an orange wire that is used for the blower on non A/C cars. It is usually clipped off, during assembly, where it leaves the main harness. The A/C system uses a separate harness. The purple wire, the relay mounted on the A/C blower housing, a speed resistor assembly, and the orange wire with the inline fuse are all part of A/C harness.

The temp sender gets a green wire.

I don't know the color of the wires for the kick down switch. One could be orange, it would be the wire from the switch to the trans, The other is likely yellow, it will connect to the switch and the wiper motor wiring (yellow power feed to the wiper motor). I do know it is a separate harness, not part of the engine harness, gets power from the wiper wiring, has the two connectors for the switch and the single connector for the trans. If you don't have the T400 harness it's available form M&H part #16145.

Just for future reference, the Electrical & Wiring forum is the best place for electrical questions.
