I pulled the non tilt steering column out of my 70 Malibu, replaced the ignition, netural safety, & turn signal switches, re installed the column & everything works in the on & start position, but the key will not turn to the ACC position. Any ideas as to where I went wrong??

Thanks

Most likely you need to "adjust" the ignition switch (towards the firewall)

Yes I tried pushing in on the key, still no go. I'll try adjusting the ignition switch, did not think about that.

Thanks

On the early columns the first guy to pull the key switch had to remove the flashing that hid the release tab on the switch. A lot of times the end of the housing that supports the switch was accidently removed. When this happens it will not go to the ACC position. To go to ACC you push in on the switch to release the pin from the stop in the lock position. The body of the switch has to be supported by the end of the housing to be able to remain stationary when you push in on the rotating cylinder. I'll try and post a picture when I get home to show you where the casting has been damaged and the pin on the key cylinder so you can see what I'm refering to.

I do not have the early style housing so I'll post this later one so you can see what the slot looks like. Yours will appear to be slightly different.

This photo shows the back of the key switch and the 2 postions I was referring to. You can see if the switch body is not retained you can not push the pin in to get over the step.

I hope this has helped.
